Why did I make a bear blog?

I'm a professional software engineer. I'm really good at my job.

It would've been easy -- trivial -- to take Hugo, some off-the-shelf theme, write some markdown, build it and deploy to Cloudflare. Wouldn't cost me a dime.

You'd think that would've been the obvious thing to do with my advocating so hard for the indie web and ownership of their tech.

"Write some HTML and CSS, it's not that hard! Make your own website! Bring back personal web pages! Bring back colors and crazy animated effects!"

I got grandiose ideas of interactivity. Connected to the fediverse, with interactions and back-links on the post. Thing that would require a server. Making one would cost time, effort, and money.

But instead, I got an account here and even paid for it so I can use my own domain. Why?

I dunno. I guess I thought the discover feed was neat.

Hello World.
